QBE has appointed Andrea Marega (pictured above) to the newly created position of European product manager for professional indemnity (PI), as part of changes to its underwriting operating model. Marega assumed the role on January 20 and is based in Milan, Italy.

Marega brings extensive experience in financial lines and professional indemnity underwriting. He joins QBE from Allianz Commercial, where he served as senior global financial lines underwriter in Munich, Germany.

His career began in 2000 at AIG as a financial lines underwriter in Milan. In 2002, he joined ACE, now Chubb, as Financial Lines manager for Italy and later Southern Europe, before taking on the role of PI manager for EMEA. He transitioned to Allianz Commercial’s chief underwriting office in 2019.

In his new role at QBE, Marega will be responsible for shaping and expanding the insurer’s European professional indemnity portfolio. He reports to Naintara Agarwal, Europe director of underwriting and portfolio management.

Agarwal commented on Marega’s appointment, highlighting his extensive track record in professional indemnity and his cross-border experience in Europe.

“Andrea has an impressive track record in PI and his cross-country European experience will help us to enhance our service to our customers and brokers while improving QBE’s presence in this important portfolio. He’s a great addition to the team and I am thrilled to have him on board,” Agarwal said.

A few months ago, the insurer nominated Mario Díaz-Guardamino as the new managing director for QBE Iberia, subject to regulatory approval.

With over 20 years of experience in financial services, Díaz-Guardamino’s background spans roles as a broker and underwriter, including credit lines underwriting at AIG Spain and later as head of EMEA trade credit insurance. His expertise encompasses specialty underwriting, business development, and broker and customer distribution strategies.

In his new role, Díaz-Guardamino will lead QBE’s operations across Spain, overseeing teams in Madrid and Barcelona. His focus will be on achieving profitable growth through deep industry expertise, enhanced service delivery, and strengthening relationships with brokers and clients.
