IAG, which operates under NRMA Insurance, CGU Insurance, and WFI Insurance, has released a claims update related to the catastrophic fires that continue to rage across NSW and Queensland.

The dominant insurer in NSW reported that it has so far received more than 259 claims across its brands, with the majority of claims relating to property damage in NSW.

IAG also announced that it will ramp up support for impacted customers in Queensland and NSW.

Its assessor and builders are already on standby, ready to be on the ground to provide assistance once it is safe to enter the affected areas.

Impacted customers may also now access IAG’s emergency accommodation and financial assistance, as well as its disaster response customer support program for free and confidential counselling by a team of experienced psychologists.

IAG said its community partner, The Australian Red Cross, is supporting evacuation centres and provides reunification and psychological support, while the donations platform, GIVIT, is accepting offers of assistance in NSW and QLD including cash and item donations using its website.

“Our priority has been, and remains, the safety of our people and customers who may be impacted and helping them recover as quickly as possible,” said Luke Gallagher, executive manager for short tail claims at IAG. “This is already a particularly difficult bushfire season for our emergency authorities and impacted communities and we will continue to support them through the difficult times ahead. “While access to the affected area remains limited, we are advising all customers to follow the guidance of the authorities before returning to their homes.”

Impacted customers are urged to lodge their claims as soon as possible. To help them with the process, they may visit NRMA Insurance agencies or contact:

  • NRMA Insurance: 13 11 23 or nrma.com.au
  • CGU Insurance: 13 24 80 or cgu.com.au
  • WFI Insurance: 1300 251 527 or wfi.com.au
