A market-first survey on inclusion in the insurance industry by Wotton + Kearney, SURA, and ANZIIF has found that there is still work to be done on inclusion.

The survey results, revealed at the 2019 Dive In Festival event - #Inclusion Impact - it's time for action, aligned with current research on inclusion and illustrated how people experience it differently due to factors including gender, age, and type of role and highlighted the value of flexible work practices in promoting inclusion.

More than 600 insurance professionals were surveyed to assess their perceptions of workplace inclusion, with diversity and inclusion expert Jennifer Whelan of Psynapse Psychometrics tapped to compile the survey and create the report, titled “Deep Dive on Inclusion: Inclusive Culture Survey,” which explores issues including leader capability, inclusion practices, flexible work, and psychological safety.

“We are proud to be a part of this inaugural survey as it addresses an industry-wide knowledge gap,” said David Kearney, Wotton + Kearney’s firm chairman. “Dr Whelan’s insights into the responses show the industry has work to do, particularly around the areas of gender, age, leadership, and flexibility, to make everyone feel that they work in an inclusive culture.

“We are delighted to have been a part of this inaugural survey,” said Angie Zissis, SURA’s managing director. “Research projects such as this are integral to driving positive change in our industry.  All industries must evolve to ensure long term viability and this data will play a key role in increasing the collective strength of our most important resource – our people.”
