McLardy McShane CEO Don McLardy has been awarded the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia.
The award recognises insurance veteran McLardy’s significant contributions to charitable organisations and Australian rules football.
The insurance broker boss served as chairman and director of The Reach Foundation from 2011 to 2013. He is a former governor of the youth empowerment focused Jim Stynes Foundation, according to a biography on the broker’s website.
McLardy is a supporter of and fundraiser for FightMND, a campaign led by AFL legend Neale Daniher.
The CEO’s involvement in Australian rules football extends beyond his charity work. He spent five years on the board at Melbourne Football Club, where he served as president from 2012 to 2013.
McLardy joined the insurance industry in 1979, first working at OAMPS where he was named managing director of Australian Operations in 1990. Following this, in 1996, McLardy transitioned to become a director and shareholder of Insurance Advisernet, which grew to oversee over 150 Authorized Representatives (AR's) across Australia during his tenure.
In 2007, he merged his own AR business with that of Mike McShane, leading to the establishment of McLardy McShane. Both McLardy and McShane left Insurance Advisernet in 2010, to focus on their broking business.
The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have shown exceptional levels of achievement, else have demonstrated outstanding service.
