A pair of industry veterans have come together to form a new firm called Kobe Insurance.

The business, which is an AR in the Resilium network, was launched on March 31 by John O’Brien and Aidan Kinder.

Bringing together almost 40 years’ experience in the industry, O’Brien and Kinder have worked at some of the biggest names in insurance including Suncorp, QBE, and DUAL.

The new business will look to specialise in various areas of insurance including cyber, drones, and foreign exchange traders as the business looks to carve out a niche.

“We’ve really stuck to our guns on trying to stick to the streams that we want to work in,” O’Brien told Insurance Business.

“We are only a couple of months in but we’ve written a bit of business already.”

In the new firm, Kinder takes on the role of director of operations with O’Brien director – broking.
Kinder was formerly the principal of Aidan Insurance Solutions, having worked in various leadership roles in finance, compliance and IT within insurance companies.

O’Brien has experience at some of the biggest names in broking and previously worked for Vero before becoming senior broker manager, and helping to launch the Resilium AR network.

Specialisation will become more important for brokers in the future as new risks continue to emerge, O’Brien noted.

“The other big thing is wholesaling,” O’Brien said.

“A lot of people will have a client and a relationship as a broker but they won’t have the experience or want to go into the nitty-gritty.

“I’ve seen that as being a strength for a few other brokers that specialise and do it well.”
