Online retailer Kogan.com, which boasts its own suite of insurance products, is reportedly locked in a legal dispute over a series of trademarks.

According to a report by Computer World, Catch Group says that Kogan has agreed not to use several domain names until a trademark battle has been resolved – the domains are said to include catchinsurance.com.au, as well as catchmobile.au and catchloans.com.au.

The issue comes after Catch Group rebranded from Catch of the Day back in 2017, operating using catch.com.au. In February this year it launched Catch Connect, a telco brand with prepaid services and then on May 24 began its legal action with Kogan alleging trademark infringement. The publication states that court documents filed in Victoria reveal Catch is accusing Kogan of buying AdWords including “catch connect” and “catch mobile”.

The report goes on to state that Kogan has owned catchmobile.com.au since at least January this year – and that it has been the owner of catchinsurance.com.au and catchloans.com.au since March. The former included slogans such as “Catch a Mobile Deal”, and Kogan had lodged applications for terms such as “Catch Insurance” and “Catch Mobile” on March 01.

Now Catch is claiming that Kogan has agreed to cease using the “Catch” brand terms until the legal action is resolved. The Computer World report says Kogan declined to comment.
