The National Insurance Brokers Association’s (NIBA) two prominent annual awards are back in 2025.

The organisation has opened nominations for this year’s Broker of the Year and Young Broker of the Year awards, in collaboration with CGU and Vero, respectively.

The awards recognise insurance brokers who demonstrate professional excellence, leadership, and commitment to clients.

The Broker of the Year award, supported by CGU, acknowledges a senior insurance broker who upholds high professional standards. Matthew Bates of Bell Partners Insurance won last year’s National Broker of the Year award.

The Young Broker of the Year award, in partnership with Vero, highlights the contributions of brokers under 35 who are making an impact within the industry. Emily-Rose Srbinovska of Austbrokers Canberra was named National Young Broker last year.

NIBA CEO Richard Klipin said the awards highlight the role brokers play in delivering professional services and supporting clients.

“By nominating a peer or putting yourself forward, you’re not just celebrating achievement; you’re shining a light on the incredible impact brokers have in shaping the future of Australians,” he said.

The selection process will identify five regional winners from New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia/Northern Territory, Victoria/Tasmania, and Western Australia. These state winners will be announced at the 2025 NIBA Gala Lunches in July.

Benefits for Broker of the Year

CGU executive general manager Damien Gallagher said the insurer’s continued involvement reflects its commitment to recognising broker contributions.

“Partnering with NIBA for this award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to rewarding broker ambition – celebrating professionals who are leading the way in shaping change within the industry,” he said.

Winners of the state-level Broker of the Year award will take part in the CGU On-Country Immersive Experience and Capability Building Workshop, a three-day program designed to enhance industry knowledge and cultural awareness.

The national winner will be announced at the 2025 NIBA Convention in October and will receive a professional development experience at NYU Stern Business School.

Benefits for Young Broker of the Year

The Young Broker of the Year award will follow a similar regional selection process, with winners advancing to the national competition.

Klipin highlighted the importance of recognising emerging talent, saying: “At NIBA, we believe in recognising those who are shaping the future of insurance broking through innovation, leadership, and a commitment to the community.”

Anthony Pagano, head of distribution at Vero, said the insurer remains committed to fostering the next generation of brokers.

“At Vero, we are proud to partner with NIBA in recognising and celebrating tomorrow’s leaders through the Young Broker of the Year award, a tradition we’ve upheld since 1990. Vero is a firm believer in nurturing the next generation of broking leaders, which is why we will continue to support this prestigious award,” he said.

The national Young Broker of the Year will receive a $10,000 professional development package, funded by Vero, to support career advancement.

Nominations for both awards close on March 14.
