Suncorp has issued a financial assistance package for customers impacted by the catastrophic bushfires in Queensland and NSW.

The fires burning across southern QLD and NSW have resulted in multiple property losses since Sept. 05. The extent of property loss still to be determined, as is an estimate of the financial loss, according the Insurance Council of Australia.

Suncorp said it contacted many of its farming customers in the Granite Belt to check on their safety and wellbeing, as well as provide financial relief and reassurance that it would support them every step of the way.

“Our experience with natural disasters in Queensland tells us that over the weeks and months ahead there will be a flow on impact to small businesses and others in these communities, so we extend our message of support to our small business and retail customers across the region,” said David Carter, Suncorp banking CEO. ”Queensland’s rural communities are renowned for their resilience against some of the harshest conditions. So, we are honoured to support and stand with these communities as they rebuild – as we did earlier this year for customers and their communities in flood-impacted regions including Cloncurry, Richmond, and Julia Creek, and for those farmers continuing to manage sustained periods of drought.”

The flexible finance options on offer include:

  • an opportunity to defer scheduled loan repayments (including interest only) on a case-by-case basis;
  • existing loan rearranging with the waiver of establishment fees;
  • waive early withdrawal fees for customers wishing to withdraw from term deposits and/or farm management deposits;
  • credit card repayment relief where necessary;
  • increasing emergency credit card limits;
  • working capital assistance; and
  • no interest rate increases.

Bushfire-impacted Suncorp banking customers are urged to contact the insurer on 13 11 55 or get in touch with their relationship manager to understand how Suncorp can help. Customers are also urged to lodge their claims as soon as it is safe to do so.
