Australian law firm Gilchrist Connell has formed a strategic alliance with UK-headquartered DAC Beachcroft to broaden legal support for insurers and intermediaries operating across multiple regions.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen both firms’ capabilities in handling complex insurance-related matters across local and international jurisdictions.
The alliance is structured to provide integrated legal services to insurers, brokers, and corporates, enabling clients to access coordinated legal counsel in coverage disputes, claims defence, and regulatory matters.
Gilchrist Connell brings experience in insurance, workplace law, corporate advisory, and litigation, while DAC Beachcroft contributes global reach through its offices in Europe, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Richard Wood (pictured left), managing principal at Gilchrist Connell, said the alliance would support clients requiring international legal continuity.
“We are really thrilled to link with DAC Beachcroft,” he said. “This alliance allows us to offer our clients an unparalleled level of service and expertise, both locally and internationally.”
Helen Faulkner (pictured right), head of insurance at DAC Beachcroft, said the collaboration enhances the firm’s ability to support clients across the Asia-Pacific insurance landscape.
“Our alliance with Gilchrist Connell strengthens our ability to provide comprehensive global legal solutions to our clients in the insurance sector, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to working together to deliver exceptional results,” she said.
The announcement coincides with leadership changes at Gilchrist Connell. Wood will step down from his role at the end of June 2025, concluding a 17-year tenure as managing principal. Effective July 1, Belinda Cohen will take over as chief executive officer.
Cohen, currently chief people officer, was appointed following a selection process facilitated by independent advisers. She previously practised as an insurance litigator and has held leadership roles within the firm for several years.
Wood will remain with the firm in an advisory role, providing support on client matters and strategic planning. John Edmond will continue as chair of the firm’s board.
In a separate move to enhance its insurance practice, Gilchrist Connell expanded its legal team in March 2025 with a series of senior appointments.
Two special counsel – Erica Dobson and Ellie McGrory – have joined the Perth office. Dobson will work within the national health law group, advising on medical negligence, injury claims, and life insurance disputes. McGrory, who has experience in liability and workers’ compensation litigation, has represented both national and global insurers.
