Vero Insurance has added roadside assistance to all of its light commercial vehicle policies, with the service delivered by AA Roadservice.
The cover is automatically included for both Vero and AMP customers, without any additional premium.
The programme targets tradespeople, couriers, mobile service providers, and small businesses that depend on their vehicles to operate each day.
Vero said the inclusion reflects the central role small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play in the economy, as they make up nearly all businesses in New Zealand.
Sacha Cowlrick (pictured left), Vero’s executive general manager for business, said the feature is designed to support business continuity.
“When a light commercial vehicle is out of action, even briefly, it can throw off schedules, delay jobs, and lead to lost earnings. Business owners rely on their vehicles to keep operations running smoothly. With Vero Roadside Assistance, powered by the AA team, we’re helping businesses minimise downtime, stay mobile, and stay in control when the unexpected happens,” she said.
Vero Roadside Assistance offers support for common issues such as towing to the nearest repairer if repairs cannot be completed on site, battery jump starts, tyre replacement, fuel delivery, and lockout services. It also provides emergency transport to help drivers continue their journey if the vehicle cannot be used.
AA Roadservice, which operates nationwide with a 24-hour call centre, will deliver the service. The organisation reports that over half of its callouts are attended within 45 minutes.
Jonathan Sergel (pictured right), AA’s chief mobility officer, said the expansion builds on an existing relationship.
“We’ve partnered with Vero to provide roadside assistance for personal insurance customers for nearly 20 years, and [we] are pleased to see their commercial customers will now benefit from the same trusted AA Roadservice that Kiwis know and love,” he said.
Vero said SMEs remain a focus for its business insurance portfolio. The insurer framed the roadside package as one way of helping small firms maintain operations when faced with unexpected breakdowns. The assistance is now active for customers across the country.
In a separate development, AMI Insurance has begun offering roadside rescue as part of all Comprehensive Car insurance policies. The benefit became available nationwide in June 2025.
New customers receive the service upon taking out a policy, while existing customers will see it added automatically when their cover renews.
The roadside rescue benefit, which AMI positioned as part of its broader “On Your Side” platform, applies to private motorists rather than commercial users.
The insurer said the offer is intended to provide added reassurance for drivers when unexpected vehicle issues occur.
