Government seeks feedback on proposed changes to ACC legislation

Insurance News

The Education and Workforce Committee is seeking public submissions on legislation that aims to improve the way the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) scheme works.

On May 09, Parliament passed the first reading of the Accident Compensation Amendment Bill. It seeks to provide greater support to New Zealanders recovering from injury, including income, treatment, and rehabilitation costs.

It also aims to fix gaps, errors, and inconsistencies within the Accident Compensation Act 2001, and between the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Act 2001 and the Veterans’ Support Act 2014. This includes entitlements for injured people nearing retirement age, surviving spouses, veterans, and for New Zealand families posted overseas.

Moreover, the bill proposes to disestablish the Accident Compensation Appeal Authority.

The Education and Workforce Committee wants to know what you think. Submissions close June 29.
