AmTrust at Lloyd’s (ATL) has snapped up Chris Gibbs from Osprey Aerospace Ltd, appointing him as head of space.

Gibbs will lead ATL’s space team, which is supported by technical advisor John Fitton and general aviation underwriter Paris Riseborough. The new head was space underwriter at Assicurazioni Generali SpA before serving as space class underwriter at Brit Insurance for eight years.

“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to further develop the space capability for AmTrust,” commented Gibbs. “I believe the team can position AmTrust at the forefront of the space sector and bring exciting new product development to the market.”

The firm’s space products cover satellites during their launch and in-orbit operations. Fitton, a satellite engineer with more than four decades of experience in the space sector and the insurance industry, is in charge of the technical analysis of space risks and claims as well as the review of in-orbit renewals.

“We are delighted to welcome Chris to AmTrust,” said ATL director of underwriting & active underwriter (Syndicate 1861) Chris Jarvis. “This additional space capability will position us as a market leader in this field as we look to grow this pioneering new book of business in the next few years.”

ATL is one of the four underwriting carriers within AmTrust International. Its space team consists of market and industry professionals with a wealth of underwriting and technical expertise.
