Global insurance leader AXA has boosted its leadership team by promoting current head of investor relations Andrew Wallace-Barnett (pictured) to group chief compliance officer and naming Anu Venkataraman its new head of investor relations.

Wallace-Barnett has been with AXA since 1988, initially as a corporate actuary at AXA Australia (previously National Mutual), where he qualified as a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and pursued these functions as he joined the company’s headquarters in Paris in 1998. In 2005, he took the role of chief risk officer (CRO) of AXA France and, in 2008, he moved to the US to become the CRO of AXA US. He then took the role of head of investor relations in 2014. Now, he will succeed Ian Johnson, who will retire after a successful 30-year career in the company.

In his new role, Wallace-Barnett will report to George Stansfield, group deputy CEO, general secretary, and a member of the AXA Group Management Committee.

Venkataraman, who will become the head of investor relations beginning March 01, joins AXA from AllianceBernstein LP, where she is currently a portfolio manager and senior research analyst covering financial stocks in the US and international markets.

Aside from replacing Wallace-Barnett, she will take on a senior role within AXA’s group strategy department, with a double reporting line to group chief financial officer Alban de Mailly Nesle and group chief strategy and business development officer Georges Desvaux – both members of AXA’s Management Committee.
