Global insurance group Beazley has announced a new addition to its technology and cyber team in the UK.

Michael Tewfik has been appointed as a technology, media and business services underwriter focused on addressing the data breach and cyber security risks of organisations in the U.K., the firm announced in a release this morning.

Tewfik, who will work out of the company’s London office, joins Beazley from Markel, where he was a senior development underwriter.

Prior to that, he held underwriting positions with Bluefin Group and Norwich Union.

“Beazley’s cyber, technology e&o and data breach response insurance policies give businesses in the United Kingdom access to broad cover and dedicated and experienced breach response and claims managers to address the full scope of their technology, cyber and data breach exposures,” Paul Bantick, Beazley’s UK focus group leader for technology, media and business services, said.

“We’re excited to add Michael to the team and expand the reach of our cyber and data breach coverage throughout the United Kingdom,” he added.

Beazley, which is the parent company of specialist insurance businesses with operations in Europe, the US, Latin

America, Asia, the Middle East and Australia, manages six Lloyd’s syndicates.

In 2016, the company partnered with Munich Re to offer custom enterprise-wide cyber protection for large businesses
internationally.

Beazley said it has helped clients handle more than 5,000 data breaches since the launch of its Beazley Breach
Response service in 2009.

In 2016, the company underwrote gross premiums worldwide of $2,195.6 million.
