Chubb’s Mike Berry (pictured) is moving up from his role as head of surety for the UK & Ireland to a wider remit as surety head for Europe.

Announcing the immediate changes, Chubb said senior surety underwriter Jamal Griffith will be taking on Berry’s previous position. Griffith, a former AIG surety underwriter who joined Chubb in 2010, will report to his predecessor and to chief underwriting officer for property and casualty in the UK & Ireland Mark Roberts.

Berry, meanwhile, will continue to be based in London while being in charge of the performance, strategy, and profitable growth of Chubb’s surety business in Continental Europe in addition to that in the UK & Ireland. He came onboard in 2015 after being with Euler Hermes for more than 27 years.

Reporting to executive vice president and head of international surety Bruce Cliff and to chief operating officer for Continental Europe Adrian Matthews, Berry will lead the European surety team based in Chubb locations in the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, and the UK.

“I have worked with Mike for several years and see him as a talented leader, uniquely positioned to take our existing, successful European surety business to a new level,” commented Cliff. “His broad market knowledge, underwriting expertise, and collaborative approach will materially benefit our clients, producers, and colleagues.

“Jamal’s promotion as head of UK & Ireland surety is a natural result of his many years of proving to be one of the best surety underwriters in the market – one who also possesses a strategic outlook.  I am very proud to have them both taking leadership roles on our team.”
