CNA Hardy, whose healthcare and specialty line products now form one augmented division, has tapped company veteran Rhonda Buege for the bigger remit.

Buege will head the new specialty business unit, which comprises medical malpractice, technology, life science, cyber, and financial lines. Effective immediately, she will be in charge of CNA Hardy’s specialty product portfolio across the UK, Europe, Canada, and Asia.

“I am pleased to take on this new challenge at such an exciting time for our business,” commented Buege. “The merging of these two business units enables closer alignment of our existing specialty products and services with our customer proposition across the globe, while leveraging existing product synergies to drive improved underwriting performance as well as an enhanced customer experience.”

The VP for specialty came onboard CNA in 2002 for its healthcare business in New York, before moving to the London operation in 2007 to build the same business across the UK and Continental Europe. Buege eventually expanded the unit to include life science.

In 2015 she also began leading the technology and cyber business, as well as launching the firm’s healthcare capabilities on the Lloyd’s platform in London and Singapore.

“I am thrilled that Rhonda has accepted this widened role and am confident that under her stewardship the existing teams will go from strength to strength,” said chief underwriting officer Patrick Gage.

“Rhonda has significant experience and a proven track record of building profitable businesses and highly effective teams, having held numerous leadership roles during her career, and I am delighted that we can leverage her underwriting expertise as well as her strong broker relationships across the globe to build out our proposition and capabilities in this manner.”
