International re/insurance broking company Consilium has formed a new specialty treaty reinsurance division to be led by Paul Cousins and Matt Webb (pictured).

Making the switch from Ed Broking after more than two decades, Webb most recently served as division director of reinsurance. He joins Consilium as a partner, co-leading the new division which will offer both proportional and non-proportional solutions.

Cousins, meanwhile, brings 44 years of industry experience spanning underwriting and broking. His credentials include time spent at Aon Benfield, Employers Re, Canopius, and Chesterfield Group.

“Consilium now has the scale and experience to offer clients a holistic specialty reinsurance solution,” said David Bearman, founder and chief executive of Consilium parent Aventum, in an emailed release. “We have international reinsurance broking capabilities across the globe, and we will be expanding those in both class and territory.

“The expertise we have onboard, our commitment to truly understand the clients and their portfolio and to always ‘go the extra mile’, combined with our in-house actuarial capabilities, will be a game-changer in the treaty market.”

The new division will be leveraging the capabilities of actuarial consultancy Mulberry Risk, which was acquired by Aventum in 2022.

“Mulberry brings something that’s completely new to the treaty table – never before have insurers and MGAs (managing general agents) had accessible access to such levels of actionable data and analysis, fast,” highlighted Bearman.
