Crewe-based broker The County Group has bought rival G R Plimbley to continue growing its list of acquisitions over the past several months.

Dave Clapp, The County Group chief executive, says Plimbley has an “excellent” location and client base that “fit well” into the company’s strategy, The Business Desk reported.

“They have been trading for 58 years and are a family-run business with a knowledgeable team,” Clapp was quoted as saying in the report.

“This increases our branch network to 18 locations and reinforces our belief that whilst the internet and social media maybe used as a research tool, customers really value traditional face-to-face service and advice on something that is as vital as their insurance policies.”

Steven Plimbley, the owner of the newly acquired firm, said it was a big decision to sell the family business.

However, after meeting with several key members of The County Group, Plimbley said he knew that the business “would be in good hands.”

“I have followed the progress of previous brokers they have purchased and County have enriched the product offering and general back-office support without changing the brand, staff or location,” The Business Desk report quoted him as saying.

“That is something that really appealed to me. I look forward to supporting the continued growth of Plimbley’s and embracing our new status as part of The County Group,” he added.

The County Group acquired a number of firms over the past several months, including include Brady & Jones Insurance Brokers, George Williams Insurance Services and Heath Insurance.

The transactions have increased the company workforce to more than 200 employees.

The County Group made its latest acquisition after earlier reports said it was creating dozens of new jobs as part of its ambitious expansion plans.
