Towergate Underwriting has hired industry veteran Martin Joyce of Dual Corporate Risks to lead the brokerage’s newly formed regional specialty business.

Joyce is tasked to build a proposition that allows Towergate Underwriting to reach more people through additional products, focusing on financial lines, including professional indemnity, directors and officers and crime.

Based in Manchester, Joyce will be reporting to commercial lines CEO David Bruce.

“The appointment of Martin and the creation of a specialty lines capability address a genuine gap in our portfolio and is part of a much broader strategic plan to build our strength and depth as an underwriting agency,” said Towergate Underwriting CEO Adrian Brown.

Brown said Joyce is well-known to Towergate as both a “respected trading partner and competitor.”

“Over time, we’ll be looking to build a team underneath him across other specialist lines, by recruiting more key talent, forming a go-to team in this space,” he added.

Joyce has been in the regional commercial insurance market for over 25 years. After a stint as a broker, he worked at AIG for three years, underwriting liability in the UK and internationally.

He also spent four years in commercial development and broker management at Allianz before joining Dual Corporate Risks in March 2007.

At Dual, Joyce served as UK regional manager for nine years, built a successful financial lines business and developed the broker distribution model.
