Ecclesiastical has appointed Simon McGill as its new UK schemes development manager as it seeks to expand its schemes book and provide brokers and MGAs with more opportunities.

Gloucester-based Ecclesiastical has been operating in the schemes market for over 30 years, providing product, risk management and claims services for a broad range of commercial and specialist personal lines schemes.

McGill began his career at Ecclesiastical in 1987 as a commercial underwriter and returned to the company in November 2019 account manager for the northern region.

A member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), McGill was president of the CII’s Cheltenham and Gloucester branch from 2019 to 2021. He has been instrumental in fundraising activity for the group and is currently education lead.

“This is an exciting time for us as a business and we have ambitious growth plans for the schemes space, which are fully supported by our board,” McGill said. “We have plenty of solutions for our broker partners, both current and new, and I am looking forward to working with them.”

“Simon has a wealth of market experience and will be an excellent fit within the business in his new role,” said Tony Fletcher, corporate director at Ecclesiastical Insurance. “We’re targeting sustainable growth within our schemes portfolio, and right now there is a great opportunity to work closely with brokers and MGAs to help them solve some of their current challenges. Simon will be the face of our new schemes proposition, working closely with our new schemes team and Ecclesiastical’s wider business development team, and I am looking really forward to working closely with him.”
