There has been a new addition to the ranks of specialist insurer ERS, with the company naming Stavros Martis (pictured) as its new chief actuary.

Martis is set to support the insurer’s expansion into new lines of business including marine and energy liability, political risk, terror and war, D&F property, professional lines, specialty reinsurance (including both aviation and marine) and cargo and specie.

“I am delighted that Stavros is joining the team,” said CEO Peter Bilsby. “Having gained the necessary approvals from Lloyd’s to write expanded lines of business, we are now ready to execute our plan. Significant actuarial experience in the business is critical to ensure we drive profitable growth and Stavros will provide us with the leadership we need to help successfully plan our course as we delivery against our strategy.”

He brings with him 25 years of experience from across the Lloyd’s and international reinsurance markets, including time spent at the likes of Deloitte where he was director.

“This is an exciting period for ERS,” Martis said. “Having watched the syndicate’s recruitment drive over the last few months, it is clear that Peter Bilsby is recruiting an extremely talented leadership and underwriting team. I am delighted to be joining to work with such an able team and a syndicate with such an exciting growth plan.”
