Newly created managing general agent (MGA) Ethos Specialty Insurance Services has named its chief underwriting officer.

Parent firm Ascot Group Limited announced that former Ascot Specialty president Rory Cline – who joined in 2009 – is moving to Ethos effective immediately.

Cline previously led Ascot’s P&C operations in New York, focusing on reinsurance and specialty programmes for US-based MGAs. He was executive vice president at CNA Re before serving as founding chief executive of the facultative MGA DirectFac from 2004.

“I am excited to be joining Ethos to help build one of the preeminent underwriting platforms in the industry,” commented the 35-year industry veteran. “I look forward to bringing my deep experience in the MGA marketplace and commercial underwriting acumen to this team.”

Formed last month as part of Ascot’s long-term growth strategy, Ethos operates separately from Ascot Underwriting Limited (Syndicate 1414 at Lloyd’s) and Ascot Underwriting (Bermuda) Limited.

“I am delighted that Rory has decided to join Michael Sillat and his talented team at Ethos. His broad underwriting knowledge base will be a key asset in supporting the collective expertise of the senior management of this exciting MGA platform,” said Ascot chief executive Andrew Brooks.
