Flood Re’s current interim CEO, Andy Bord, has been named as the permanent top boss of the state-backed reinsurance scheme, which begins its second year this month.

Bord has been appointed to the CEO post permanently, subject to regulatory approval and following a comprehensive search undertaken by recruitment solutions firm Odgers Berndtson.

“It is a privilege to be staying with a great team that has already made a real difference to the lives of tens of thousands of people across the UK,” said Bord, who took the interim CEO role in February, replacing Brendan McCafferty.

“I am excited to be taking the [Flood Re] scheme forward, working with policymakers across the UK, the insurance industry and local communities so we continue to ensure access to more affordable flood insurance.”

An experienced business leader with insurance and consumer expertise, Bord formerly served as CEO of Capita Insurance Services. He worked for Staysure, BGL Group and Vodafone UK, where he led online and consumer direct sales and was head of mobile convergence.

Flood Re chairman Mark Hoban said Bord has the “decisive combination” of CEO experience and “good knowledge of the insurance sector.”

“His work in complex regulated environments along with his strong consumer insight is particularly relevant as we continue to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the scheme,” Hoban said.

“Andy is not only passionate about Flood Re’s mission but also has the necessary leadership skills required to build on Flood Re’s foundations and take the organisation from strength to strength,” he added.
