Data and technology-driven insurance specialist Hood Group has appointed a new non-executive chairman, it was revealed today.

Andy Homer, a former CEO of Towergate Insurance, will take on the role at the firm – which works with brands including esure, Shelias’ Wheels, Asda Money and the RAC.

Homer – who will take over the role from Eric Cater – has a “wealth of experience” in the sector and has held numerous executive positions within the insurance industry, Hood Group said in a statement. He is also an investor in start-up companies such as Bikmo and Bought by Many.

Cater, who has been with Hood Group since 1988 when he led a management buy-out with Bernard Hood, will continue as non-executive director at the firm.

Hood Group chief executive Simon Hood described Cater as having been an important part of the company’s journey, adding that he was “extremely grateful” to him for his advice and counsel over the years.

Speaking of Homer’s new appointment, Hood said: “I have known Andy for a number of years and during that time he has always been interested in Hood Group. This interest has grown over the past year as we have embarked on our journey to transform insurance through innovation and I am absolutely delighted that he has chosen to join us.”

He added: “His wealth of experience in our industry and passion for driving change through innovation will be a tremendous asset to our business as we work hard to achieve our ambitions.”

Homer described Hood Group as a “dynamic business,” adding that the way the firm uses data and technology in their everyday operations is “unrivalled in any other insurance business I’ve seen.”

He added: “I am joining the Group at an exciting time in its development. Its passion for working with well-known brands and insurers is contagious and they’re leading the way in insurance offerings.”
