Insurance News

Last month we told you about Hood Group’s newly created data protection officer role. Now the technology-driven insurance specialist has introduced another position, appointing Moyo Akala as data scientist.

Using demographic and contextual data, Akala will focus on coming up with new ways to personalise quote journeys, supporting the company’s vision of innovation-led transformation in the industry. A former customer data analyst at Access Bank in Nigeria, the new hire has a Masters in Data Science from Coventry University.

“Our industry has a vast amount of untapped data that we can use to better determine risks and improve both our processes and cost efficiencies to improve the customer experience,” commented Hood Group business development director Paul Firkins. “Artificial intelligence and machine learning will give us the infrastructure to do this by personalising the products, pricing, and overall experience.”

Firkins continued: “The team here at Hood Group are committed to innovating insurance through data and so we are incredibly excited to have Moyo on board to help us take our data analysis capabilities to a whole new level.”

Through a knowledge transfer partnership with the Institute for Analytics and Data Science at the University of Essex, Hood Group recently secured funding from innovation agency Innovate UK.
