The Scandinavian branch of HDI Global Specialty SE has welcomed a new managing director.

Taking the role is Thomas Barenthein (pictured), who is making the switch from Inter Hannover, where he was managing director for Sweden.

Located in Stockholm, the branch is considered the insurer’s centre for a host of political risks, as well as general aviation and marine and specie.

“I am excited to be joining HDI Global Specialty at a time of such challenge and opportunity,” said Barenthein. “The company’s development has been very impressive during its first 18 months and I very much look forward to contributing to its continued success. With strong owners, solid rating and many industry professionals as new colleagues I am convinced that our future will be very positive.”

Meanwhile, HDI Global Specialty CEO Ralph Beutter noted that the two had worked together previously at Inter Hannover.

“He is joining an experienced team in Stockholm and I am looking forward to him making a strong contribution to our progress over the coming months and years as we build on the momentum of what we have already accomplished,” he said.

Barenthein will now join the executive board and replace Mats Westerborn who is moving to the role of general manager, aviation, in their Scandinavian branch.
