Global insurance group Howden’s new office in Swansea opened with a sports celebrity in attendance, with Welsh rugby legend Tom Shanklin (pictured above) flanking the event.

The insurer initiated operations at its new premises in Axis Court, Riverside Business Park, Swansea, last month. February 22 celebrated the formal opening of the office, which has already seen the induction of 14 brokers since the start of the year, with ambitions to expand its workforce further in the months ahead.

Shanklin, who represented Wales and earned 70 caps between 2001 and 2010, shared insights from his rugby career with Wales and the British & Irish Lions at the event, aligning with Howden’s major sponsorship of the upcoming Lion’s tour.

The inauguration also featured a raffle to support the Wales Air Ambulance Charity, offering prizes such as a golf round at the Celtic Manor, a £250 voucher for Gaucho, and a Fortnum and Mason luxury hamper.

Gary Stevens, regional managing director, said that the new office embraces the spirit of Welsh resilience and teamwork.

“Just as in rugby, where teamwork and strategy are paramount, at Howden, we are dedicated to working closely with our clients to navigate risks and achieve success together,” Stevens said. “The swift momentum of our Swansea office speaks volumes, and we’re thrilled to have assembled such a skilled and seasoned team, with more to join in the coming months.”

Howden also recently announced plans to acquire ARM Group Holdings Limited (ARM) as part of its push to expand into captive management.
