MS Amlin has appointed Ed Mitchell as lead underwriter for the insurer’s product recall team, amid plans to be more active in the market.

Mitchell will be responsible for developing recall solutions aimed at meeting reputational, regulatory, and operational risks. Although he is based in London, the account will be written on a worldwide basis.

With more than two decades of experience in the insurance and reinsurance markets, Mitchell joins MS Amlin following his time at XL Catlin. There he led one of the largest books in the global product recall market, as global head of recall.

The new MS Amlin hire also held underwriting positions at Beazley and Gen Re, as well as gaining broking experience at Marsh and Sedgwick.

Paul Western, MS Amlin product group lead – specialty lines, said Mitchell’s appointment will enable the company to increase its product capabilities and enhance its offering.

“We look forward to working with him and building the team to establish MS Amlin as a leader in the product recall market,” commented Western.

Aside from reinsurance, MS Amlin provides insurance in property & casualty and marine & aviation. It employs over 2,400 people in 26 locations worldwide.
