RSA UK and International has appointed Steve Watson (pictured) to serve as the managing director of the company’s London Markets business – a part of RSA Commercial Lines.

Watson had been leading the business on an interim basis since August 2020, following the retirement of former business head Gary Long.

First joining RSA in 2019 as a group casualty portfolio director, Watson has more than 25 years of industry experience. Before joining RSA, he was serving as head of technical underwriting in the UK for Zurich – a company where he had spent most of his insurance career. Watson got his start in the industry at Eagle Star.

“Our London Market business is on an exciting trajectory with underlying performance showing strong improvement, so it was important that we have the right person heading the team,” said RSA Commercial Lines managing director Rob Gibbs.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead our London Market business and for me it’s a real privilege to be able to work with such a talented, hard working and committed team of people,” said Watson regarding his appointment.

Watson added that RSA will be entering 2021 “in really good shape,” thanks to the company’s hard work over the past 18 months that is finally paying off. That work will form a foundation upon which RSA hopes to develop repeatable success, the managing director commented.

“A sharp focus on rock-solid consistency in delivery will ensure that we serve our customers and brokers well in the months ahead,” he said.
