Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) is tapping what are believed to be underserved markets when it comes to intellectual property (IP) insurance.

The international underwriting business – which currently provides IP cover to customers in the UK, the US, and other European markets through offices in London and Frankfurt – is furthering its reach to address demand in the likes of France. With a €25 million limit, the specialist IP policy insures against infringement of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyright, registered designs, and domain names.

Open to both brokers and clients in France, Monaco, Luxembourg, and Belgium, a series of TMK IP masterclasses is taking place in Europe to launch the new product.

“The value of intangible assets, such as IP, is rapidly increasing,” commented IP underwriter Marie L’Affeter. “While France is home to some of the world’s major patent innovators, until now, these businesses have not had access to comprehensive IP insurance protection.

“Companies are becoming increasingly aware of their exposure to this risk, and I am delighted that we will now provide coverage to this underserved market. We have received excellent feedback from our first IP masterclasses, which serve to increase our brokers’ and clients’ understanding of this complex risk and demonstrate the steps that can be taken to mitigate it.”

The Paris-based enterprise risk manager looks forward to growing TMK’s presence in the new markets.
