Insurance underwriting company Novae has expanded its renewable energy unit with the appointment of a former executive from top UK insurer RSA.

Novae has named Valeria Del Villano as class underwriter for renewable energy, effective immediately. Based in London, she will report to renewable energy unit head James Green.

“There is a lot of investment and interest in the renewable energy space, which has led to an increased demand for this specialist insurance,” Del Villano said.

“I look forward to working with James to capitalise on the growth opportunities and help increase Novae’s presence in this class.”

Del Villano joins Novae from RSA’s engineering and renewable energy team, where she was a trading underwriter in 2015.

She also previously worked as a renewable energy underwriter at GCube, specialising in insurance covers for a number of technologies including solar photovoltaic and concentrated solar power, onshore wind, hydro and biofuels energy risks.

The new Novae executive also worked as assistant underwriter at HSB Engineering Insurance, a leading specialist engineering insurance and inspection services provider that is a member company of the Munich Re group.

John Owen, Novae’s divisional head of marine, aviation and political risk, described Del Villano as a “testament to the valuable offering” being built at the company with her “strong reputation” in the renewable energy market.

“We see a lot of potential within the renewable energy space and Valeria’s appointment is a key part of our strategy to develop capabilities in such specialty classes of business,” Owen said.
