The charity group Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) has announced that its annual Insurance Day of Giving 2022 managed to raise over £170,000 thanks to the help of generous insurance businesses.

Preparations and registration for the event started as far back as November 2022. IUAD had also announced that it was holding a virtual balloon race as part of the event.

More than 20 businesses took part in IUAD’s Insurance Day of Giving, which was held December 1, 2022. Participants and their fundraising activities included MS Amlin and its bake sales; WTW’s carol concert; and Crawford & Company’s cycle ride. Other participants at the event included AXA UK, AXA XL, Sedgwick, and Aviva.

IUAD made special mention of Zurich Insurance, which through its charitable arm Zurich Community Trust (ZCT) offered to match all donations and fundraising during the event, managing to contribute £100,000.

“We are delighted to have supported the Insurance Day of Giving this again year,” said ZCT head Steve Grimmett. “Through this initiative, we are pleased to have been able to double industry donations and contribute to funding dementia research through the donation. Together, we can ensure more people affected by dementia have the support they need and deserve.”

According to IUAD, there are 900,000 people living with dementia currently in the UK – yet there is still no way to cure, prevent, or slow down the ailment.
