Davies, a professional services and technology firm serving insurance and highly regulated markets, has announced the launch of a new forensic accounting service aimed at enhancing the claims process.

The division will work closely with the firm’s loss adjusting and claims third-party administration (TPA) teams to deliver expertise on business interruption, cyber, and major and complex losses. The goal is to offer additional value to Davies’ insurance clients who will be able to provide a more streamlined claims process to their policyholders.

Leading the team is Edward Leighton (pictured), a forensic accountant and cyber business interruption specialist with over 30 years of experience in the industry.

As Davies’ head of forensic accountancy services, Leighton will based out of the firm’s headquarters in London. He will report to Russell Crewe, chief operating officer for property & niche claims.

“Our new forensic accounting services is an important addition to our growing claims solutions platform, and I’m delighted that Edward has joined our specialist team,” Crewe said in an emailed release. “Edward has an excellent track record of quantifying the accurate financial impact of large and complex losses.

“I have no doubt that his expertise within the sector will become an invaluable asset to the business and provide our clients with an excellent level of service, that minimises risks, protects assets, and enables clients to make informed decisions.”

Leighton commented: “I am looking forward to this opportunity to develop and lead the new forensic accounting division. Combined with our existing claims TPA and loss adjusting services, our expertise will allow us to provide accurate and timely financial evidence to secure rapid and enhanced claims resolutions for clients.”

In recent years, Davies has made significant investments in technology to improve its claims TPA and loss adjusting services. Among its advancements is the use of drones for surveying, which allows for quick and dependable data collection even in hard-to-access areas. Additionally, the firm has incorporated technology that allows its teams to conduct inspections virtually, reducing claims expenses by up to 40%.

The launch of the forensic accounting services division follows a period of strong organic and M&A (mergers and acquisitions) international growth for Davies as it continues to expand its services for clients across the UK and Ireland, the US, and globally.

In February, the firm announced a new simplified operating structure, aligning its global operations across three business units: Davies Global Solutions, Davies UK and Ireland, and Davies US.
