Acies MGU has established Phoenix Specialty, a specialist managing general agent (MGA) dedicated to the construction sector.

Phoenix Specialty is poised to commence operations under the leadership of Tim James (pictured above) as managing director, pending regulatory consent.

James has a noteworthy track record, having spearheaded the growth and successful divestiture of Ensurance, a construction and engineering-focused MGA. His extensive experience also includes over 16 years in senior and board-level positions at HSB.

Joining James is Milan Kosorin, taking on the role of senior construction underwriter. Kosorin's background includes significant stints as senior underwriter in energy and construction at Allianz, as well as engineering at Generali Global Corporate and Commercial, coupled with nearly a decade of global construction underwriting roles at AXA Corporate Solutions.

The foundation of the Phoenix team is further strengthened by the inclusion of seasoned construction underwriters Cameron Mclean, Elyse Gateson, and Chantell Wilson.

With financial backing from AXA UK, Phoenix is launching with a focus on contractors all risks and contractors plant & equipment products, with an eye towards expanding its offerings to include additional specialist products.

A pivotal development for the expanding MGU

“Our mission at Phoenix Specialty is to establish a reputable global construction MGA by leveraging a dedicated team of highly experienced technical underwriters to deliver exceptional service. Our immediate priority is to establish a strong presence in the UK market before expanding our footprint internationally to meet the unique challenges faced by the construction industry,” James said.

Acies MGU's CEO, Mark Heath, also expressed his enthusiasm about Phoenix's launch, viewing it as a pivotal development in Acies MGU's expansion strategy, which already encompasses Acies SME and Intangic MGA.

“In Phoenix, we have a team of highly qualified, experienced construction underwriters who are finely attuned to the fast-paced and complex construction market and the needs of their insurance and broker partners. I’m excited to see Phoenix set a strong example of how we can achieve a clearer future in our industry with the delivery of sharper, more advanced solutions for our broker and insurer partners and their clients,” Heath said

Phoenix Specialty is set to make its formal debut at the forthcoming British Insurance Brokers’ Association conference (BIBA), taking place on May 15 to May 16 in Manchester.
