Canopius is making further expansions to its cyber team with the appointment of Lewis Gayle as underwriter for cyber and technology. Gayle joins with immediate effect and is the latest in a string of recent cyber appointments by the company.

The division now has 36 professionals, with 10 new hires made since the start of 2023. Gayle follows the appointment of Isabel Finn as senior cyber threat intelligence analyst in July, which also marked the insurer’s in-house cyber threat consultancy, in addition to nine new hires to launch Canopius’ dedicated global cyber incident management team in June.

According to his LinkedIn, Gayle comes joins the company following previous roles at CFC as a cyber assistant underwriter and claims adjuster, in addition to Marsh as an assistant claims advocate. He has also worked at QBE as an underwriting assistant, an associate for EY, and an assistant claims advocate for WTW.

In this new role, Gayle will report to Canopius London head of cyber and technology Michael Shen.

“In Lewis we have a stellar addition to our cyber team, which continues to go from strength to strength,” Shen said. “Evidenced by the top-quality talent that continues to join us, Canopius is fast becoming the home of choice for risk professionals at all stages of their career – which is true for every division of our business, but especially cyber, which has increased by 38% in the last 6 months. In an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape, Lewis’ expertise will fortify our delivery of the high quality, expert technical service for which Canopius is known.”
