AXA XL has appointed Diego Cerquenich to the role of senior risk consultant, marine, UK & Lloyd’s.

In his new role as senior risk consultant, Captain Cerquenich will work with AXA XL’s marine underwriting team to further develop risk consultancy capabilities for clients and brokers. A company release stated that he will report to AXA XL head of risk consulting, UK & Lloyd’s, Chris McGuire and will work closely with AXA XL chief risk consulting officer, marine, Pascal Matthey.

Cerquenich is a certified master mariner with extensive maritime and shipping expertise and has command experience on dry bulk cargo vessels. In 2014, he transitioned to marine consultancy, where he focused on investigating naval accident/incident, and providing marine advice. He also served as an expert witness and marine warranty surveyor in charter party disputes.

“Our risk consultants play a vital role in helping to guide our clients by providing market leading risk consulting services, while at the same time, supporting our underwriters’ risk selection and assessment,” said AXA XL global chief underwriting officer, marine hull and head of marine UK & Lloyd’s Sundeep Khera.

“Diego’s valuable seafaring and marine warranty surveying experience, coupled with his loss prevention guidance, will bolster our already strong UK Marine team, supporting our growth ambitions in the region and enhancing our risk management offering to clients,” added Khera.

Last week, AXA XL appointed Marine Charbonnier as head of captives and facultative underwriting, APAC and Europe. Previously the global programmes and captives regional director for Europe at AXA XL, Charbonnier will lead the company’s captive business for the Asia-Pacific and Europe business unit.
