It’s official – family business BMG Insurance is now owned by Northern Ireland brokerage AbbeyAutoline.

Confirming the swoop’s completion, AbbeyAutoline managing director Julie Gibbons stated: “I am extremely thrilled to mark yet another significant milestone for AbbeyAutoline as we announce the acquisition of BMG Insurance.

“Since the merger [of Abbey Insurance and Autoline] in 2020, our business has remained buoyant despite the unprecedented challenges presented by the pandemic, and we are continuing to look for the right opportunities to support our expansion.”

Part of the Prestige Insurance Holdings Group, AbbeyAutoline is keen to further grow its current workforce of 430 people. Added under its umbrella is BMG Insurance, which was founded by Brian McGurgan in 1972.

Meanwhile Gibbons also noted: “Not only does BMG Insurance have an excellent reputation within the insurance industry here in Northern Ireland and with its customers but it has a strong team of 13, and we look forward to welcoming them to our company.

“It is a company which has a proven track record of forming lasting relationships with its customers and for offering excellent advice. These are values which are closely aligned to AbbeyAutoline’s, and the acquisition is an exciting one for both parties.”

Financial terms for acquiring the Portadown-headquartered firm were not disclosed. BMG Insurance also has an office in Newtownbutler.
