Independent insurance broking and risk management specialist TL Dallas has expanded its Cockermouth team with the addition of two new hires.

The firm has substantially grown its workforce since opening its office in Lakeland Business Park in May 2023. Joining this team are Karen Coombe (pictured above, centre), a seasoned professional with 40 years of experience as a broker, and Talia Frazer (pictured above, left), who is joining as an apprentice.

Coombe is a former colleague of Heather Wood, Lynne Taylor, Emma Irving, and Philip Jackson, who previously worked together at C H Jeffries before joining TL Dallas.

In an emailed news release, Coombe said: “TL Dallas is a place where my core values of being a first-class community broker can be lived out. I have worked across all sectors of general insurance, but over the last 10 years I have primarily focused on agricultural insurance, which is one of the areas that TL Dallas specialises in, which made it the perfect fit.”

Frazer, who joins as an apprentice at TL Dallas, is currently enrolled in the Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Program facilitated by industry-leading training provider Davis Group.

She said: “I went to West Lakes Academy, leaving in 2021. I always knew that I wanted to do an apprenticeship as it offers structured training, practical experience and hands on knowledge from people with a vast amount of industry experience. I wanted to work in a professional environment, where I can develop my business skills working directly with clients, so insurance is a great fit for me.”

TL Dallas managing director Polly Staveley commended the newly formed team in Cockermouth, citing the positive reception from clients across Cumbria.

“It really is a dream team in Cockermouth and clients from all industry sectors across Cumbria have welcomed our personal and experienced approach to insurance broking,” said Staveley. “It’s also very rewarding to be attracting the next generation of insurance professionals like Talia, through our apprenticeship programme and we are looking forward to seeing the business continue to thrive in Cumbria.”

TL Dallas is a fourth-generation family firm owned by its management and staff. It has 11 other offices across the UK and a team exceeding 165 members. The company provides a comprehensive range of insurance services covering commercial, personal, trade credit, health and care, farming and agricultural, specialist avian influenza (bird flu), demolition contractors, and books and collectables. It also offers due diligence, risk management, independent financial services, and houses an in-house claims consultancy division.
