Gallagher has appointed Gabriella Eriksen Wingren (pictured) as head of transaction solutions for the Nordics. The move adds dedicated warranty and indemnity (W&I) insurance leadership to its private equity and M&A practice (PEMA) in the region.
Eriksen Wingren will join on 22 July from Themis Underwriting, where she served as head of Europe for W&I insurance. Her appointment follows the addition of Federica Marcabruni as head of transaction solutions in Italy earlier this month. The move extends Gallagher's PEMA presence across Europe.
The appointment comes as demand for transactional risk insurance rises alongside M&A activity.
A Norton Rose Fulbright and Mergermarket survey found that 65% of senior dealmakers globally expect greater use of W&I and representations and warranties insurance in 2025. Liberty GTS has reported favourable pricing conditions in the Nordic market but warned that increased deal activity could place upward pressure on premiums.
Recent claims data suggests W&I insurance now plays a larger role in the dealmaking process. Marsh reported that transactional risk insurers paid nearly US$650 million in claims during 2025, while claim notifications rose 35% year-on-year. Financial statement breaches generated the highest claim values. The findings suggest buyers rely more heavily on these policies when disputes arise after a transaction closes.
In the Nordics, the product's use also appears to be expanding. Dealsuite's Nordic Monitor recorded a 38% increase in W&I usage in first-half 2025 deal terms compared with the second half of 2024.
Aon's April 2026 Nordic insurance market update said abundant capacity continued to support softer pricing across many insurance lines in the region.
Gallagher's Global M&A Insurance 2025 Review and 2026 Outlook found that insurer capacity remains strong across transactional risk markets. The broker said M&A insurance has become a common feature of transactions ranging from lower mid-market deals to large cross-border acquisitions. Competition among insurers has also helped maintain favourable terms for buyers.
Eriksen Wingren brings experience across law, underwriting and transaction advisory. Before joining Themis, she worked at PwC Sweden and private markets firm EQT. She will oversee transaction solutions activities in the Nordics. W&I insurance and M&A broker Emilia Johansson will report to her in Sweden.
Gallagher's expansion comes as competitors continue to invest in transaction liability capabilities. Earlier this year, Lockton launched a global transaction liability platform that consolidated its transactional risk specialists under a single structure. The move highlighted increased competition among brokers for W&I and deal insurance business.
Alistair Lester, chief executive officer for private equity and M&A at Gallagher in the UK and EMEA, said the Nordic private equity and M&A market continues to attract significant financial sponsor activity across multiple sectors.
He said Eriksen Wingren's combination of underwriting and legal experience would support the firm's plans for its transaction solutions and capital advisory operations in the region.
W&I insurance protects buyers against losses linked to breaches of warranties in sale and purchase agreements. Claims are made directly against the insurer rather than the seller. The product has become common in private equity and mid-market transactions because it helps sellers achieve cleaner exits and gives buyers protection against undisclosed liabilities.
