Westfield Specialty International has announced the appointments of Craig Nugent and Joseph Beltran to its professional indemnity (PI) team as part of its growth strategy.

Nugent joins the division as a senior underwriter, while Beltran takes on the role of underwriter.

Nugent has more than 15 years of experience in the PI sector, most recently as a senior underwriter at Sompo International. He also previously worked at AXIS Capital, where he supported the growth of its PI book.

Meanwhile, Beltran has served in various capacities in the insurance industry for a decade, including underwriting roles at The Hartford and Optio Group.

Both appointees will be based in London and will report to Mark Fellows, head of financial and professional lines.

Fellows welcomed both appointees to the team, saying that their expertise will be crucial in providing high-quality service to clients.

“These appointments are part of a number of hires for Westfield Specialty International to kick off 2025 as we continue to deploy new capital and invest in people and products,” he said.

“The fact that we can recruit talent of this quality is testament to the Westfield Specialty culture,” Fellows added. “People are attracted to the combination of Westfield’s entrepreneurial mindset and the stability of our long-term ‘mutual’ approach.”

Westfield Specialty said the appointments align with its plans to expand its PI offerings and enhance client services in the sector. It plans to continue adding new lines of business and provide specialty insurance solutions. It currently underwrites in the US, the UK and Dubai.

Last year, the company secured Lloyd’s approval for its syndicate business forecast for 2025, setting the projected gross written premium at £774 million. By the end of this year, the company said it plans to expand the syndicate by 33%.
