Mission-backed Kyntra has launched as a Dublin-based managing general agent targeting commercial property risks that fall outside mainstream insurer appetite. The MGA is led by co-founders and co-chief executives David Gibson and Robert Purser, both of whom join from Aon-owned NFP.
The MGA targets property-owner and operational risks across manufacturing, warehousing, accommodation, leisure, office blocks and unoccupied property, with appetite covering both standard and non-standard construction. Cover is available on a primary, first-loss, excess-of-loss and co-insurance basis.
The positioning reflects a persistent placement problem in the commercial property segment. According to a survey of UK brokers by Prestige Underwriting, conducted in May 2024, 79% of brokers across the non-standard market find it difficult to secure coverage for clients with specific non-standard risks. The figure spans both personal and commercial lines, but the commercial property classes Kyntra is targeting sit within the segment where mainstream appetite has been weakest historically.
Gibson said the MGA would assess every submission on its own merits rather than against rigid criteria, a contrast to the automated, rules-based approach that characterises much of the mainstream market. "Brokers need underwriters who'll take on the risks others won't," he said. "We're hands-on, assessing every submission on its own merits rather than against rigid, rules-based criteria, and we want to build long-term relationships with brokers by finding dependable cover for their clients."
Purser, who previously served as head of commercial property at Blackrock Insurance Solutions before joining NFP in January 2025, said MISSION's platform would allow the team to focus on underwriting rather than infrastructure. "Mission's platform gives us the capacity and operational support to focus on what we do best: underwriting difficult risks," he said. "It provides the long-term backing to build a sustainable specialist business that can be a partner to brokers and clients throughout the underwriting cycle."
Kyntra is Mission's 12th MGA in the UK and Europe and its first based in Dublin. Mission, which is backed by Accelerant, has been expanding steadily since its first launch in 2022, with a stated aim of reaching 15 MGAs by the end of 2026. The Dublin base also places Kyntra under Central Bank of Ireland authorisation rather than FCA oversight, which is relevant for brokers placing Irish or cross-border risks.
Gibson's career spans FBD Insurance, Marsh, Lockton, Travelers and NFP. Purser held underwriting roles at QBE and Liberty earlier in his career before moving into senior positions at Blackrock Insurance Solutions and NFP.
