Marsh has today announced the appointment of David Bruce (pictured) as CEO of Marsh Commercial. Subject to regulatory approval, Bruce will move into the new position on January 01, 2022, taking over from Anthony Gruppo who is retiring from the industry in early 2022. The move will also see Bruce join Marsh’s UK & Ireland executive committee.

Bruce first joined Marsh Commercial in 2018 as chief operating officer and throughout his career, which spans over three decades, he has held several senior broking and underwriting roles. Before joining Marsh, he served as chief executive of commercial underwriting at Towergate Insurance, as CEO of insurance intermediary Cullum Capital Ventures, and as director of distribution, partnerships, at Aviva.

In his new role, Bruce will oversee Marsh Commercial’s UK-wide network of 50 offices and its Enterprise Centres of Excellence. He will report to Alistair Fraser, CEO, UK corporate, Marsh. Commenting on the appointment, Fraser noted that Bruce is an “exceptional leader” who has been instrumental in shaping the evolution of Marsh Commercial’s service and solutions for UK SMEs over the last three years.

“He brings extensive broking and underwriting experience to the role,” Fraser said, “and, under his guidance, Marsh Commercial is well-placed to continue to help clients navigate the risks they face and continue to thrive.”

Meanwhile, Bruce highlighted that UK SMEs have been faced with unprecedented challenges over the last 18 months, with their resilience to shock tested to the limit by the pandemic. As the market begins to move towards recovery, he said he looks forward to working with his Marsh Commercial colleagues in helping them shape their clients’ futures and contributing to their success.

Chris Lay, CEO, UK & Ireland, Marsh, added: “David will play a key role in delivering the very best of Marsh and Marsh McLennan to small and medium sized businesses across the UK. On behalf of the business and our colleagues across Marsh, I would like to thank Anthony for his tremendous leadership, dedication and service, and wish him well for the future.”
