hubb, a UK-based insurance broker, has appointed Andrew Rear as chairman, effective immediately.

Rear (pictured) has nearly 30 years of insurance market experience. Before joining hubb, Rear served as the chief executive of Digital Partners, a Munich Re company. In this role, he was responsible for Munich Re’s insurtech partnerships with over 20 different digital insurance brands. He also previously served as the CEO of Munich Re’s life insurance business in Asia, Africa, and the UK.

In his new role, Rear will be responsible for shaping hubb’s investment and growth strategy. He joins an advisory board of former Barclays CEO (Corporate and Commercial Banking) Peter Harvey, former Crown Agents Bank group chief executive Richard Jones, Suhail Ahmad, and Stuart Middleton.

Commenting on the appointment, hubb CEO Mark Costello said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy to hubb. In his previous role, he has already overseen the success of numerous digital-first insurtech businesses and will be invaluable in shaping the future of hubb as we aim to reimagine the commercial broking space.”

Rear commented: “For many business owners, insurance is opaque and expensive. hubb is using technology and AI to put the customer in control. I’m delighted to be helping them realise that vision.”
