The next career move of exiting Lloyd’s Lab head Ed Gaze has been revealed.

“It’s official, I’m joining Innovative Risk Labs (IRL) as CEO,” wrote Gaze on LinkedIn. “I’ve had a blast running the Lab; now it’s time for a new challenge. Thanks, James York, for giving me this opportunity, and to my advisory team.”

York, the chief executive of insurance social network Peaccce and principal of insurtech foundry IRL, set up the latter in 2015. “Finally,” he said, “IRL has the leader for the job.”

According to Gaze, he will be coming onboard the insurtech incubator in the middle of next month.

Back in May, the KPMG alumnus announced his imminent departure from the Lloyd’s Lab, whose ninth cohort will be introduced later this year.

“We have had some amazing successes since the Lab launched in 2018; over 90 insurtechs have been through the programme, supported by around 50 Lloyd’s managing agents and brokers,” highlighted Gaze on LinkedIn at the time.

“I am so proud of what we – everyone involved in the Lab – have achieved during my four-year tenure. I think I’ve had just about the best job going in the market, and the opportunities it has presented to me personally have been unique – from meeting the deputy prime minister of China, through to speaking on the same stage as government ministers in Guildhall.”

He added: “I am confident that I am leaving the Lab in the safe hands of Rosie Denée & Tom Allebone-Webb, and I will be around for the remainder of Cohort 8.”

IRL, meanwhile, has worked with startups Next Gen Insurance, Hokodo, Flock, and Rooster.
