Double award-winner eyes future growth

Late last week, the Insurance Business Awards returned to Sydney for a second year, giving much-deserved praise to the individuals and organisations truly making a difference within the sector.

Also returning for a second time was CPR Insurance Services – a Queensland-based brokerage led by husband and wife duo, Mandy and Robert Cooper.

Once again, CPR claimed the award for Brokerage of the Year (1-5 staff), beating off stiff competition from seven other small brokerages in order to retain the prestigious title.

Speaking to Insurance Business, director Robert Cooper said winning the first award had been a significant benefit to the business and had helped drive major growth.

“Winning that award definitely enhanced our reputation and gave us extra credibility within the local community and among our clients,” he said. “It probably encouraged them to refer other people to us and it definitely created a lot more work for Mandy and I.”

In fact, Robert said CPR enjoyed a record month immediately after the 2018 award win and the business saw 34% growth over the entire year.

“Mandy and I were absolutely exhausted at the end of the year,” laughed Robert, who added the pair regularly worked 60-70-hour weeks in order to keep up with client demand.

Now, with two consecutive awards under their belt, Mandy and Robert say they’re anticipating further growth so they’re on the lookout for a new team member.

“We’re looking for another person to help with the workflow otherwise we’re not going to be in a position to handle any more growth and that’s a worry for us,” said Robert.

Currently, CPR has two trainees on the team, but the business is in search of an experienced broker who can help them take advantage of the extra interest that is likely to be generated as a result of the second win.

“Mandy and I are working at capacity unless we get another broker in because the two trainees we have are great but it’s a bit early for them to be able to step up,” says Robert.
