Tung said Jarman’s experience would support the insurer’s casualty underwriting operations and its work with brokers. “We are delighted to welcome Shawn to Arch. He brings extensive casualty underwriting and risk advisory experience, together with strong technical capabilities and a relationship-focused approach. His broad expertise will be a valuable addition to our casualty team as we continue to expand our portfolio and increase support for our broker partners,” Tung said.
Arch Insurance Australia operates as part of Arch Insurance International, which provides insurance solutions across accident and health, casualty, financial lines, and property. Its operations span the UK, Lloyd’s, Europe, Bermuda, and Australia.
The appointment places Jarman in a role covering public and products liability underwriting, including new business and renewals within Arch’s Southern Region portfolio.
Bupa has announced two executive leadership appointments across its Asia-Pacific operations, with Angelo Loizou named chief financial officer for APAC and Josh Byers appointed managing director of Bupa New Zealand.
Loizou will join the APAC executive leadership team and relocate to Melbourne with his family, taking up the role on January 1, 2027.
He has spent 10 years with Bupa, working across its finance functions in Australia and Hong Kong. The company said he had played a leading role in changes to Bupa Hong Kong’s customer and financial performance, as well as efforts to establish a platform for future growth.
Bupa said it would announce an update on the finance director role in Hong Kong in the coming weeks.
Byers will also begin his new position on January 1, 2027. He will succeed Pedro Sánchez, who is retiring at the end of 2026 after 20 years with Bupa, including the past three years leading its New Zealand business.
Before taking the New Zealand leadership role, Sánchez worked in Bupa’s Spanish aged care business, Sanitas Mayores. He joined as operations director in 2006 and became general manager in 2021. Bupa said his tenure included business growth and work involving dementia care.
During his three years leading Bupa New Zealand, Sánchez oversaw changes to the business's operations, performance, market position, and culture.
Byers has been involved in Bupa New Zealand’s transformation program, including the introduction of technology across its aged care operations and the launch of Blua.

Bupa APAC CEO Nick Stone said the appointments followed recruitment processes and reflected the company’s approach to leadership development and succession planning. “Their appointments provide continuity while bringing the experience and perspective we need for Bupa’s next phase of growth,” Stone said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Sánchez and Damien Johnston, who served as interim CFO for APAC.
Johnston will leave Bupa on November 18. Stone thanked him for his leadership of the finance team during the interim period.
Bupa’s appointments involve both an internal leadership transition in New Zealand and a change in the regional finance function. Loizou’s move to Melbourne will also mark a return to Australia after his work in Hong Kong.
Stone said the executives’ international career paths reflected the company’s approach to moving employees between markets to share expertise and develop leadership capabilities.
The changes take effect on January 1, 2027, with Johnston’s departure scheduled for November 18 and Sánchez’s retirement planned for the end of 2026.
