About AICLA

The Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA) is the region’s premier professional loss adjusting body. It boasts more than 900 members across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. The institute was formed in 1997 as a result of the merger of three of the industry’s largest professional bodies – the Australian Institute of Loss Adjusters (AILA), Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters Australasian Division (CILA), and Institute of Loss Adjusters of New Zealand (ILANZ).

AICLA was established to:

  • Provide a framework of recognised and respected educational standards, courses, and qualifications for the industry
  • Continue the advancement of the education and technical knowledge of its members through meetings, seminars, and conferences
  • Provide unified representation in the insurance and financial services industry, which it serves
  • Liaise with insurers, brokers, lawyers, and others serving in the loss adjusting industry

Organisational structure

AICLA consists of its board of directors, division councils, committees, and administrative offices.

Board of directors

The institute’s directors are elected from the division councils. The board consists of the president, deputy president, executive member, education director, and directors from each of the eight divisions. It meets twice a year to decide on the direction of and policies for AICLA.

Division councils

Division councils are elected annually and are responsible for organising local educational activities, industry representation, division diary, and other activities. Each division elects a chairman, secretary, treasurer, and up to six council members. AICLA has eight division councils – New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, New Zealand, Tasmania, and International.

Committees

The board is supported by several committees from time to time. The functions and membership of the committees are published on AICLA’s website when required.

Administrative offices

AICLA’s administrative offices assist the board in developing and implementing strategic directions and policies, managing finances, and dealing with member and prospective member enquiries.

Leadership at AICLA
Glyn Lloyd – president

Lloyd has been serving as president of AICLA since October 2020. He is based in Brisbane. He is also the head of liability in Australia at global loss adjusting business Charles Taylor, a role he has held since July 2021.

Lloyd has held several senior leadership positions in various key industry players, most recently as executive adjuster at Brisbane-headquartered Cunningham Lindsey. He was also the national liability manager at Sedgwick and national liability leader and Northern Regional expertise manager at Cerno.
