AIA Group has launched the AIA One Billion campaign, which seeks to engage a billion people to help them live healthier and longer lives by 2030.

The insurer will embark on various partnerships, events and community programmes to encourage everyone from all walks of life to lead healthier lifestyles and help secure a healthier planet.

The campaign involves a multi-year programme of global wellbeing-focused initiatives, partnerships and events. In its various markets, AIA ambassadors, such as Jess Quinn, Ian Jones, and Dame Valerie Adams in New Zealand, will support the initiative and rally people to act and adopt healthier habits.

“While the pandemic has increased people’s awareness of the importance of health and wellbeing, the 5,590+ research AIA NZ released last year shows that over 90% of deaths in New Zealand are still caused by non-communicable diseases resulting from modifiable lifestyle behaviours,” said Nick Stanhope, AIA New Zealand CEO. “Poor mental health is of particular growing concern here in New Zealand, as well as the impact on our health from our interactions with the environment.”

AIA said that it also aims to become a global leader in environmental, social and governance (ESG). The insurer said it will strengthen its long-term strategy to advance the sustainable development of communities. As part of its ESG reporting, AIA will track, measure, and report on progress towards the goal to engage 1 billion people by 2030.

“Here in NZ, we know the importance of protecting our planet, and understand the environment has a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of our customers, our people and our communities,” Stanhope said. “It is so important that we understand our impact, and where possible, encourage positive environmental practices amongst our partners, suppliers, and within our business.”
