A deal has been struck between Europe’s largest independently owned family-run car company and an insurer that will impact 200 branches across the UK.

Arnold Clark has signed with Smart Insurance for its minor damage insurance product. According to a report at AM-Online.com, Arnold Clark turned to Smart in part because it offers a repair service called Shine! that carries out repairs on vehicles with minor damage across the country.

Eileen McFadden, Arnold Clark Insurance Services insurance manager, said: “This partnership appealed to us on a lot of levels.

“We see a lot of opportunities with the minor damage product. It ticks many of our boxes; customers have no excess to pay and have a £3,000 aggregate limit of repairs. It helps maximise the part exchange value of the vehicle and it does not affect a customer’s no claims bonus on their motor insurance policy.

“This, on top of an 85-90% acceptance rate for claims, was very appealing for us and we are looking to lead the industry in this regard.”

Smart Insurance was first founded back in 1999 in South Africa, but launched a minor damage insurance product in the UK in 2008. It claims to be “the only minor damage insurance provider that directly interfaces with all three aspects of the insurance and claims process – from the administration and underwriting to the technical repairs process.”
