More than 300 hires – that’s what specialist motor insurance business Granite Underwriting has revealed it plans to make at its headquarters in Liverpool.

The staff boost will span a range of functions at all levels including underwriting, actuarial, customer service, claims handling, finance, and HR. The ramp-up involves both Granite and its insurance subsidiary Acorn.

“I am pleased by the rapid pace at which our business continues to grow, underpinned by our ambitious expansion plans,” said Granite chief executive and co-founder Alan Keating. “I look forward to welcoming more highly capable people to the team as we continue our exciting growth journey.”

Earlier this year industry veteran Steve Ashton came onboard as non-executive chairman, while Jonathon Rhydderch and David Greaves were recently tapped to serve as underwriting director and schemes and trading director, respectively.

Granite’s ambitious growth strategy comes following the minority shareholding acquisition by Inflexion Private Equity in January. It’s not clear what the timeframe is for the recruitment drive.
